No cleats are allowed. Barefoot is OK. Any other flat bottom shoe is OK.
No alcohol. This is a city park and this is a family-friendly event.
Language should be appropriate for a family-friendly event. We have 12u's playing in this event.
AVP Rules apply except the following:
Serve receive: You cannot receive the serve with open hands. Players must use their platform or have their hands together if passing overhead.
First contact (other than serve): You can use open hands on defense. If a ball is hard driven (no time to think), you can double the 1st contact. If you have time to think about it, the 1st contact must be clean (set quality).
Tips: You cannot tip the ball with any sort of finger/wrist action.
Blocks:
Adult & Co-ed: A block counts as one of your 3 contacts. The blocking player may make the next contact.
Juniors: Block does NOT count as one of your 3 contacts and the blocking player may make the next contact.
Net. Contact with the net at any time during play is a fault. (Hair does not count.)
Centerline. Crossing under the net and interfering with an opponent is a fault.
Antennae. The net poles serve as antennae. The ball must pass over the net between the poles.
Setting over: No overhand setting over the net unless the player's shoulders are parallel to net (front or back).
Timeout: One 30-second timeout is allowed per match.
Court boundaries: it is a fault to enter an adjacent court at any time while your ball is in play.
Teams should switch sides every 7 cumulative points.
Call your own faults. (If you touch the net or foot fault on serve, own up to it.)
The "work" team or "ref" team is responsible for keeping score. The playing teams should call their own faults. The work team may help with officiating when needed.
Violation of the Code of Conduct could result in sanctions, including point penalties, forfeiture of match, and/or ejection from the event. This applies to all in attendance including players, fans, visitors, etc.
Kindness is appreciated. Rude behavior will not be tolerated.
Verbal harassment (heckling, taunting, etc.) either on the court or from the sidelines will not be tolerated. There are no warnings--first offense will result in removal from the event.
Inappropriate language will not be tolerated. Remember, this is a family-friendly event with many kids present.
Alcohol is not allowed.
Lights go out at 11:45pm. We have no control over this!
Matches/formats may be adjusted to deal with time contraints.
All timing decisions are at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
If matches are still going at 11:30:
A whistle will be blown (or announcement made over the PA system).
Teams will play one more point after that whistle.
If ball is in play when whistle blows, then finish that point plus play one final point.
If the set is tied after that "final" point, play one more point to break the tie.
The match is over after that--you do not have to win by 2.
HOWEVER, if that last point creates a 1-1 set tie, then teams will play an accelerated tie-breaker:
Teams will play to 4, do not have to win by 2.
Seedings out of pool play will be based on the following, in this order:
Record by set.
Point ratio.
If 2 teams are tied, then the head-to-head set record will be used. If tied, then point total from the head-to-head match-up will be used. If still tied, then a coin flip will have to be used to decide.
If 3 teams are tied (set record and point ratio): Teams will draw from a hat for seeding.
